When looking for, or being referred to, a Physical Therapist, you may be a bit confused about what exactly a physical therapist can do that your general practitioner or referring specialist cannot.
“Physical Therapists are health care providers who are the experts in the examination and treatment of problems that affect peoples’ abilities to move and function. These abilities are driven by four major systems in the body: musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and integumentary and Physical Therapists are educated and experienced to manage all four.” PT Magazine
Although most patients of Physical Therapy are referred to the practice, in the state of North Carolina they can also be seen as a primary care practitioner in regards to neuro-musculo-skeletal problems (i.e. neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, difficulty walking, vertigo, etc.) If your condition requires the service of a physician, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist or to your primary care physician.
